Where farmers sell to other farmers
Cry not, friends of onions.
How to cease the saline while cutting an onion. Red, Spanish, yellow or vidalia…there are as many tricks about how to stop onion tears as there are onions themselves. Here are a couple of approaches to keep you from crying like you just lost your best friend. First, keep your onions in the fridge (or place the offending onion in the freezer an hour before slicing). Chilled onions cause fewer tears than those at room temperature do. Second, it’s the sulphurous fumes in the onion juice that causes the waterfall, so use a very sharp knife. It will lessen the amount of onion juice…and the amount of crying. Oh, and there’s some folklore out there saying to cut onions under running water: it’s not advised. You just get wet onions and a higher water bill.
