Beef Mushroom Loaf

1/2 lb mushrooms, sliced
1 medium onion
3 tbsp butter
1 cup bread crumbs
1 1/2 cups milk
2 lbs lean ground beef
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup cooked mashed potatoes
1 1/2 tsps salt
1/2 tsp marjoram

Soak bread crumbs in the milk. Brown the mushrooms and onions in butter and then allow it to cool. Mix the beef with the mushrooms and onions and then add the bread crumbs, eggs, potatoes, salt, and marjoram. Butter a 2-quart baking dish or mold. Turn the mixture into it, and bake at 350o F for one hour. Turn onto a serving dish and serve hot. Serves about six.
