Persall Naturals has Success Down Cold

Persall Naturals has success down cold. Their specialty is producing non-genetically modified soybean and canola oil, without chemicals or preservatives, using a unique Swedish process called “coldpressing.” Owner/operator Jason Persall says four or five years ago, he was thinking, “It would be nice if we could do something to add value to our crops…there seemed to be an opportunity in the retail market with gourmet, culinary oils, so we looked into it.” He, his wife and his father researched and planned for a year and a half before putting the idea into place. Fast-forward to today, and Persall Naturals is running two cold presses and looking to add a third or a fourth.

Persall says to appeal to today’s consumers the right packaging makes a big difference, “The label and bottle need to appeal to the eye and connect with the consumer right from the shelf.” He and his wife had a vision of what they wanted their product to look like and came up with a label that conveys a nice, antique, Old World look and feel on a Bordeaux wine bottle. Apparently the look and the process is paying off, Persall says he recently struck a deal with Sobeys supermarkets in Ontario. “I believe it’ll keep snowballing from there,” he says.
