Where farmers sell to other farmers
Old recipes solve modern lifestyle challenges
Today's busy lifestyle has meant a steady diet of take-out and convenience foods for many Canadians.
“It doesn't have to be that way,” says Kyla Pierik, author of Treasured Recipes from Home. “I want people to recognize that home-cooked meals can be easy to prepare.”
Growing up as an only child on an apple farm in Nova Scotia, Kyla often did some of the cooking for her family. Over the years, she's collected her favourite recipes and compiled them into a cookbook along with stories and photos. “It's filled with recipes that people will recognize from their childhood.”
Treasured Recipes from Home was only on the market for one year when Chapters and Coles came on board through a national distributor, Glen Margaret Publishing. Now the book is available across Canada.
“I hope people rediscover the real ingredients that go into meals. Cooking isn't difficult and really, nothing beats a home-cooked meal, especially when you buy food from local producers.”
